Its a sad day in the neighborhood

As everyone knows, the only good thing besides rolling rock, rolling rock town fair, and steelers mini-camp to come out of laytrobe, pa, Mr. Fred Rogers, is now gone.

Mr. Rogers was more of an era than a person. I feel less of a loss than a 5 year old should feel because I have already graduated from mr.rogers. I am who I am in large part because of mr.rogers and the lead paint used in my old house (thats another log another day.)
When you talk about your childhood people are always arguing over the cutest cartoon;rainbow brite or strawberry shortcake, the best superheros; thundercats or teenage mutant ninja turtles. The best videogame system;nintendo or sega. Whats cooler to pack for lunch; a snack pack or jello or a giant italian sub with capaculo and prosciutto and capacoddu and suprasatta and frutatta and cutaletta(only on mondays) all inside of homemade paninins(ok maybe that was just us italian kids.) But anyways, everyones childhood tv shows and lunches were different but everyone and I mean EVERYONE had Mr.Rogers in it.
Black kids that watched him probly thought he was their dad (cause they saw mr.rogers more.)
He was so unhip and not cool but something about the show was just mesmorizing. I feel bad for kids today that have terrorism, Iraq, and senior projects to deal with. Now more than ever a five year old could really use a good dose of a 60 year old man in sweater and sneakers talking to himself and imaginary puppets.

Mr. Rogers once said that he was happy that public broadcasting was around. He was wrong. Public broadcasting should be happy that Mr. Rogers was around.
