The only two undefeated conference teams in the Big East square off tonight under the lights on Mountaineer Field. On the line is The Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy, a trophy that has been given to the winner of this rivalry since 1993. Each university has brought home the trophy six times since they started giving it out. The trophy commemorates Ben Schwartzwalder, a former West Virginia football player (1931-1933) and Syracuse head coach (1949-1973). Syracuse has not won the award since 2001.
The following quotes are taken directly from the Daily Orange, a nationally renowned campus newspaper:
Pasqualoni and the Syracuse players anticipate a wild atmosphere in Morgantown, a small town renowned for its fanatical fans and late-night bar scene."(In 2002, the fans) were throwing stuff at the bus," Kowalewski said. "They are some of the craziest fans. I told my parents when they come to the game, 'Don't worry about wearing orange and blue. Just blend in. If we score, just be quiet.' There have been stories about their fans yelling at people."
A night game in Morgantown is like no other, just ask Pitt and Virginia Tech
The student body has had most of their classes canceled today and that has given them plenty of time to be properly loaded for this game.
The stadium will be packed, there will be no orange in sight, especially on the scoreboard
If you wanna see orange, check out grant avenue after the game, the couch in my closet may be no more.
Prediction: West Virginia 33-16
npoc is 1-0 in predicting WVU thursday night games after he guaranteed victory for the Mountaineers last year against then No. 3 Virginia Tech
