NCAA 2010
Another disapointing season for the all the coaches of 529 Mclane and 509 Mclane
Tennessee Volunteers
David Nest
Nest led his Volunteers to a 10-2 season and the SEC Championship but he was embarrassed in the Sugar Bowl against Maryland 21-0 and later found out that his team would be put on probation for the next two seasons resulting in the loss of 10 scholarships over 2 years.
Something like this is going to be hard to recover from not next season but the three seasons after, probation also scares away recruits and if he is not careful the NCAA interest may rise and further sanctions put on the program.
Nest stood by his team though as WVU came knocking on the door for a second time as well as the USC Trojans, nest declined both offers and vowed to stick around through the thick and thin (mostly thin) at Knoxville.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nicholas Corleone
Once again the nations top defense sat around and watched its offense lead them to a 6-6 season and a tough loss in the EV1.net Houston Bowl. Corleone is now 1-5 lifetime in bowl games, and the Houston Bowl marked his fifth consecutive loss.
The defense continues to amaze, producing NFL first rounders, turnovers, touchdowns and Thorpe Award Winners. However the offense is as dead as can be and the wishbone just seems to old-fashioned to work in this day and age, however Corleone still stands by it and he has 3 years left on his contract at Nebraska to prove it to work or he may be shown the door.
The offense created more points for the opposing team that it did for its own, countless interceptions, bad pitches and fumbles were brought back for touchdowns while the black-shirt defense scored most of the points for Nebraska all season.
This off-season will be crucial for Corleone and his coaching staff, they will need to bring in players to fit that offense. With the defense they have Nebraska will always be mentioned in national title talks, they are just 2 offensive pieces away from it.
Kansas State Wildcats
Johnathan Stopiak
Hiring Stopiak could cost the KSU president and athletic director their jobs, after only one season Stopiak has a coaching security level of 0 and a grade of D-, he lost the last 5 games of his season to finish 4-8 and not qualify for a bowl while his previous team Ole Miss, is flourishing without him.
Stopiak may only have one last chance to show some progress at KSU, as another 4-8 certainly will not be tolerated in the little apple.
National Scene
The first ever meeting between two 9-2 teams to determine a national title took place this year. Neither team won their own conference but still because of losing early, they maintained high enough BCS scores to qualify for the Fiesta Bowl.
These were the two worst BCS scores ever involved in a national title game, it just shows the parity among the top 40 schools and how many teams have a shot at the title.
Florida State came out on top of Texas Tech in the Fiesta Bowl to win back-to-back national championships and its third in six years, the first time this has happenned in the dynasty.
Florida State looks to be just that, a dynasty, and this year could prove to be a historic year for them if they can keep the talent around.
