Jason Gwaltney Follows Country Roads
-Morgantown, WV
The Mountaineers came out on top in what was one of the most rugged slugfests of the 2004-05 recruiting season on Tuesday when five-star running back Jason Gwaltney announced live on ESPNews that he will sign with West Virginia University.

Gwaltney is a five-star player, the highest ranking afforded by Rivals.com, and is ranked as the No. 1 player in New York, the country's No. 3 prep running back and the No. 15 player in the nation regardless of position.

"West Virginia has the best fans anywhere"

He held up the Mountaineers #14 jersey with his name already stitched on the back and said he was joining his half brother at West Virginia University. The smell of a burning couch instantly filled the air around the 500 block of Mclane Avenue and rumors of the North Endzone Fieldgoal post in Mountaineer field being torn down started to sound more like fact. Suddenly my 5:30 JRL 318 class didn't seem so important.

Chuck McGill, based on a bet made earlier this semester and printed in the DA in one of his columns will now eat an entire jar of mayonaise in front of the mountain lair, with his journalistic integrity on the line.

The recruitment of Jason Gwaltney was definitely an interesting saga. The New York running back ended the suspense Tuesday when gave his verbal commitment to West Virginia live on ESPNews. Click here for more.

“It’s the place I want to be. The fans are great. Morgantown has the best fans – the state of West Virginia has the best fans of anywhere in the nation."

If that doesn't get you ready for some college football, then the 2005 slate of home and away games being announced sure as hell will.
Morgantown will play host to the Backyard Brawl against Pitt and perhaps the final meeting ever against Virginia Tech.
The Mountaineers will also face UCONN and Big East newcomer Louisville in Mountaineer Field.
Roadtrips are already in the works for games at Cincinnati and Syracuse. Return trips will be made to Rutgers and South Florida. Another non-conference series will continue with Maryland, this time with the Mountaineers traveling to College Park,MD.
West Virginia is still searching for one more opponent to round out its schedule since Boston College is more than likely headed out of the conference.

National Letter of Intent day is tomorrow and npoc will be attending RichRod's press conference where he will announce his official 2005 recruiting class.
