Walsh drilled three 3-pointers in a span of just over two minutes as no.25 florida gators claimed THEIR FIRST SEC TOURNAMENT TITLE with a 70-53 win over no.4 kentucky. Florida got revenge after a 16-point defeat to Kentucky in last years final that made them 0-4 in their only SEC final appearances.

It marked WVU's first ever appearance in the Big East title game. West Virginia set three tournament records at the 2005 BIG EAST Championship Presented by Aeropostale. The Mountaineers set new marks for points by one team in a single tournament (297), 3-pointers made by a team in one tournament (44), and 3-pointers attempted by a team in one tournament (103).
