Duke sharp again, but Astros win, 2-1

Pirates drop another game to the Astros
Kip Wells has 18 losses this season with two starts remaining, one against the Cubs and one against the Brewers, he still has a shot at reaching 20 losses

Pirates fall to 62-91
They are 33.5 games behind first place St.Louis and have lost three in a row. Their winning percentage is .405 worst in the national league, 2 games behind the Rockies and second worse in Major League Baseball. They will be unable to catch the 100 loss Kansas City Royals but the Pirates have the second overall pick on lockdown. With nine games remaining the Pirates can still run the table and also finish with 100 losses.

This story ran in the post-gazette about WVU junior linebacker Colin Dunlap. Nothing to special here but what intrigued me was the fact that I got to watch this story come together at football interviews on Monday. I took a few pointers from Dunlap, he was very impressive and got a lot out of Boo.

Big 10 Game of the Year
College Football Game of the Month
10 Star play
Purdue +4

Minnesota is not that good, even against the pitiful schedule they have been through. They ALWAYS struggled in conference play and the last time the Gophers knocked off Purdue....1995.

5 units
Northwestern +8

Penn State has yet to face a half decent team or even leave Happy Valley, or face a conference opponent. Their little stroll through September comes to a screeching halt against the Wildcats. Take the points, although I do not think we are going to need them.

3 units
South Florida +21

Louisville is not that good. The public has a quick memory and nobody remembers when Kentucky nearly came back on won against them. USF will be ready to play at home in their Big East opener. USF's style of running the football will make it nearly impossible for Louisvilles offense to put up the kind of numbers they are used too. And the bulls have a decent defense too.

3 units
Kentucky +22.5

The Gators always seem to struggle in these spots coming off a big win and before a tough draw at Alabama. The Gators could only put up 16 last week, they'll be hard pressed to reach 30 here and even then they would always have to shutout Kentucky. The Gators have been unable to cover the spread against the Wildcats since 2001. Last time Kentucky was such a big dog, they hung 10 with louisville. Urban Meyer on the road for the first time with the Gators and Florida losing players to injury last week.

3 units
Oregon State +6.5

Hoping to get +7 on this one but I am not worried about buying the hook, I will take it either way. Arizona State blew out Northwestern last week and Oregon State was on the wrong end of a beating from Louisville. Thats why the number is here but those games are not indications of the teams on the field. The system never fails.

Tonight the system loved UL Monroe +7.5 but I layed off after sipping too much Omar Jacobs cool-aid. And of course UL Monroe wins. The system is 1-0 against the spread and even picked a touchdown+ underdog to win straight up. It is already at midseason form.
