Block party honoring homicide victim ends with another killing

Post-Gazette
Negro on Negro crime at its very best. Leave it to these fuckin animals to shoot someone to death at a blockparty remembering someone that got shot to death. Civil Rights doesnt look like such a great idea does it?

A Wilkinsburg block party held Monday evening in memory of a man who was shot dead a year earlier ended with the shooting death of another man. Demond Buckner, 26, of Wilkinsburg, was found lying face-up in the street in the 1500 block of Park Avenue around 1:17 a.m. yesterday, dead of a gunshot wound to the head. He had a loaded handgun.

Pictures were not necessary to discover that everyone involved was colored.

Signs of the party were still evident yesterday afternoon. Paper plates and cups littered the sides of the street, and Ms. Meredith's back yard was stuffed with plastic chairs, coolers, grills and unused charcoal.

KFC buckets and sliced open watermelons were also recovered at the scene.

Dan Kovecevic on the Buccos
The Pirates have no readily apparent financial excuse for spending $13 million less than the Cincinnati Reds or $7 million less than the Milwaukee Brewers. They have comparable markets, comparable stadiums, even a somewhat comparable recent history of performance on the field. Forget about comparing the Pirates' payroll to the Yankees, as so many do. This sticks out much more.

You will remember that the Pirates took out full-page newspaper ads over the winter to tout their increased payroll. You might also remember that a variety of factors were credited for that, most prominently an increase in attendance. What was left out actually was the most important part: The team's national monies -- revenue sharing, network television and radio contracts -- all increased dramatically. No one has firm numbers on this, though some estimates have been published of late, but just about every account suggests that this increase actually exceeds the $12 million the Pirates added to the payroll.

Q: I agree with Kevin Gray of Atlanta from last week's Q&A. I'm done, too. My 8-year old son started wearing a Dodgers cap. He says the Pirates stink. What a way to start the next generation of Pirates fans.

Oh is that beautiful, even an 8 year old is smart enough to know when he sees a bunch of jackasses on a baseball field.

Until next week, by which time someone might figure out why FSN Pittsburgh has made a habit in recent game broadcasts of repeatedly showing shots of Kevin McClatchy in the crowd

Yes! Someone else has caught on and this is being brought to national attention. McClatchy is on a public relations mission and is influencing FSN too. They Battlin buccos are trying sooo hard this year to make their sorry asses look good. The announcers are being fed caffeine the entire game, Greg Brown continues to suck Jack Wilsons dick and god forbid an 8-20 team would receive any criticism whatsoever.

Bob Smizik

Even with this victory, their record is 8-20, which put them on a pace to lose 116 games. (I'm glad to see someone else is jumping on the projected loss bandwagon).

Pirate Starters first inning numbers

Ian Snelled- .462 2 HRs 8 RBIs

Olly Perez- .400 3 HRs 5 RBIs

Mahallem- .417 4 HRs 7 RBIs

Duffy is hitting .198 with a .270 on-base percentage. McLouth's numbers are .184 and .231. Those figures are totally unacceptable and are crippling what should be the meat of the batting order. If the Pirates were in the thick of a pennant race, Perez would get less time. Since the team is going nowhere, and he once had an astonishing upside, he deserves a bit more time.
