npoc Review:
Friday Night Lights
What a concept, high school football in the deep South, where football is everything and the town revolves around these kids that want to get out so bad. The reason I am going to be so critical about this movie is that the concept was perfect and the entire movie ly in how it was executed.
Many things were left out of this movie and with time constraints it is understandable but there had to be better ways of establishing certain things and making points.
How this team gets blown out without Booby and then bounces back to win all these games in a row is beyond me, alls they ever show is the team getting pounded yet they are winning games and with no stars at all.
That fucking Billingsley made ONE good play the entire movie and it was called back for holding, that fucking quarterback could not throw for SHIT, but the directors did not bother to establish them as good players and show that THIS WAS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FAVORITE, yet they showed NOT a single strength of this team besides an injured Boobie.
They only bothered to portray the five seniors and did not even give a mention to the ENTIRE REST OF THE TEAM.
The games were dispicable, nobody hits like that repeatedly, and they flashed by as if nothing.
The playoff bracket was the worst piece of a sports movie I HAVE EVER SEEN, how clear was it that Permian was going to advance to face fuckin Carter, WHY WAS IT NECESSARY TO MAKE IT LOOK SO OBVIOUS and how could they not show a single QUARTERFINAL or SEMIFINAL game of Permians, and how exactly were they winning those games, CAUSE THE ENTIRE TEAM BLOWS WITHOUT BOOBY???!!!!
Very few things made sense, but let it be said that I ALWAYS ROOT for the goodguys to lose like in MightyDucks and all thos cheesy sports movies but this ONE TIME I was actually on the side of the team potrayed in the movie, the Permian MOJO Panthers, and it was upsetting to see them lose.
The true story aspect of it, made it a little more intriguing and the where are they now is always interesting to see (especially that the only player to get a scholarship is now driving a truck.) The star quarterback of the team played a single season at f'n Baylor and then got cut, ITS FUCKING BAYLOR!!
Were the referees in the finals racist? I never got that part, the black referee made terrible calls against Permian but I couldnt tell if the white guys were on Mojos side.
A good argument could be that they left that stuff out to not bore the non sports fans, but the non-sport fan I attended the game with was a sleep by halftime of the first game, if your going to make a sports movie, make a fucking sports movie, do not try to appeal to anybody but sports fans because it just does not work.
I must say that Tim McGraw played an excellent role, what a drunken redneck and Billy Bob Thorton lacked fire at points but all in all he fit the role.
Apparently they picked the wrong year to make the movie as the Panthers went on to win States the very next year, sorta like Junction Boys.
Again, I am only this critical because the concept of this story has been a dream of mine and anything less than perfection would not be tolerated.

The Adam Panas Watch
Apparently npocaholic, St. Bonaventure alumnus, Shaler Area Class of '03, marijuana rehab graduate and Kent State sophomore is still alive and well although there has been no word from him since he was spotted at his kitchen table playing cards with a box of American Light on his head
He plans on makings his much anticipated return to Shaler Area on Wednesday and is looking for "shit to fucking do"
He was going to play in the Turkey Bowl, but after realizing that it had nothing to do with either Turkey or Smoking a Bowl, he declined
He however has showed his interest in playing a Saturday football game and would like any and all interested parties to inquire within
Adam Panas, a true Shaler Legend
